Christine Fortner is primarily known for
her watercolor paintings but she also paints in other watermedia
often using a combination of acrylic, gouache and transparent
watercolor. She states, "I like to paint outside whenever
possible. There is nothing better than to paint outside
on a beautiful day in Alaska". If weather or darkness does
not permit working in 'plein air' then she usually works
from a still life that brings the outside in.
Christine is an award winning watercolor
artist and an accomplished watercolor instructor. Her paintings
have been published in several books on Watercolor Painting.
Her work has also been featured in American Artist Watercolor
Magazine with Executive Editor Stanley Marcus stating
"Fortner's still life's are vibrant, complex paintings that
burst with color.... Her compositions, with their unusual
juxtapositions of shapes, reflections and lines function
as a whole."
Christine has been a watercolor instructor
for over 20 years. She teaches at the Anchorage Museum of
History and Art as well as teaching workshops throughout
Alaska. Her paintings are in the Permanent Collections of
the Anchorage Museum of History and Art and the Valley Regional
Hospital. She does corporate commissions, most recently
for Bailey's Furniture Store and KTUU TV. Christine is represented
by Frame Workshop and Gallery and the Artique Ltd in Anchorage.
